Central China Normal University (CCNU), established
in 1903, is a comprehensive normal university which comes under the
direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China.
CCNU consists of 22 teaching units offering Bachelor
Degrees in 46 disciplines, Master Degrees in 69 disciplines and Doctorate
Degrees in 22 disciplines. There are now more than 18,000 students on
campus. Among nearly 4,000 staff members, there are more than 700 Professors
and Associate Professors. CCNU has 3 key courses that are recognized
as being in the top 100 in the country. They are Modern Chinese History,
Chinese Countryside Studies and Language Education Studies.
CCNU is one of China's oldest institutions of higher
education. Having received international students since the 1960s, it's
also now receiving scholarship students from foreign governments. All
subjects are open to international students both through long-term degree
studies and short-term training. CCNU is also one of the earliest Educational
Base Units of Chinese Language and Culture authorized by the State Council
Office for Overseas Chinese.
CCNU also offers many services in International Students'
Guesthouse on the campus. Air-conditioned single and double rooms are
available with colour TV, telephone, refrigerator and separate bathroom.
The communal kitchen, laundry room and dining halls are open to every
international student. And the cost of living in Wuhan is significantly
lower than in other major Chinese cities.
CCNU is located in Wuhan City. Wuhan, the capital
city of Hubei Province, is not only a key political, economic, educational
and cultural city in Central China, but also a national centre for communications.
The third biggest river in the world, the Yangtze, flows through the
heart of Wuhan and Hubei Province. Hubei is a centre for the
production of hydro-electric power. Three Gorges Program, due to be
completed in 2009, will be the largest hydro-electric power plant in the world.
Hubei is also an exciting tourist destination with
its famous Yellow Crane Tower, East Lake, Hubei and Jingzhou Museum,
Guiyuan Temple. Nearby Wudang Mountain and Xiangfan Longzhong are recognized
state AAAA tourist zones. Wudang Mountain and Xianling Tomb in Zhongxiang
have been designated as world cultural heritage sites. Additionally,
the Shennongjia Forest Region is a famous nature reserve. Hubei also
boasts many new tourist sites, such as Qingjiang Folk Custom Garden,
Lichuan Tenglong Cave, Shennong Stream, Wuhan Changjiang Bridge, Jianghan
Commercial Walking Street and Hongshan Square. Together these form the
essence of Hubei's tourism.
